I’m Dr Clare Craig, a London hospital consultant. I had the idea for ThanksDr in the summer of 2009 when someone was ill on our family holiday.
The holiday was spoiled by me worrying about whether or not I was making the right decisions. I wished I could ask another doctor's opinion - to have ‘a hand to hold'. Then it struck me - if I felt that way as a fully-qualified doctor, how many other people would like instant access to expert medical advice whenever they need it?
So ThanksDr aims to help patients at every stage of an illness. Usually the only chance people have to talk to a doctor is during a quick and sometimes emotional appointment.
If you're lucky enough to have a medically qualified friend or family member, you may get a second chance to have things explained to you. With someone who’s thinking carefully about what’s best for YOU.
Now ThanksDr is here to be like that friend or family member. We offer the opportunity to contact a doctor at a time that suits you. Our service gives you time to fully express yourself and ask questions until you’re happy you’ve understood.
Dr Clare Craig [BM BCh FRCPath ] trained in medicine at Cambridge then Oxford University. She has worked in Oxford and London and is now a part-time Consultant Pathologist at Imperial College London.
