Long Term Amitryptyline Use Hi, I have been on Amitryptyline 10mg for 18 months now for nerve pain in anus following fissure. I am type 1 diabetic. I understand this is a low dose. Can you tell me if it is safe to take indefinetly. Each time i try to stop pain increases and struggle with withdrawal. It definetly helps but am concerned if it is a drug you can take forever. Can prochlorperazine maleate stop vomiting? Hello, can you tell me if prochlorperazine maleate work to stop vomiting if someone has a stomach bug. How often can they be taken, bearing in mind they only work for about three hours. Would you suggest a different medication even? Whilst writing, do they cause any problems in asthma cases? Contraceptive pill increase in breast size I am currently using the contraceptive pill Mercilon. I have noticed an increase in breast size, which I am not happy with. Can you recommend another form of contraception that I could try? Would it be worth trying a progesterone only method, such as the injection? I have not put on any weight anywhere else.

Citalopram dose I've been suffering from depression on and off for quite a long time, including nearly 2 years on Venlafaxine, which never really put me right. About 4 weeks ago I converted to Citalopram, which had previously been an excellent cure. My doctor started me on 20mg, which I've been on for nearly 4 weeks. I have had the occasional good day, but it hasn't lasted, and 5 days ago the dose was increased to 40mg. This was all right for the first 3 days but has fallen off badly and for the past 2 days I've been feeling really bad. The reason the dose was increased was because I told the doctor that improvements were very spasmodic, but I have since come to know that this is not unusual. I'm reluctant to go back to the doctor so soon and would like to know whether I would benefit from going back to 20mg. I understand that the first time I was on Citalopram I stayed on 20mg the whole time and it kicked in within about 4 weeks. Many thanks for your help. ***** ********

UTI and antibiotic help Hi there, I had right side flank pain, fever and faintness, and was diagnosed with a UTI around six weeks ago. I was prescribed Trimethroprim. I took the whole course, and on a follow up visit to the doctor, the dip stick test showed I was clear, although I still had the flank pain. A week later, I made another appointment as the flank pain hadn't gone away, urine was showing clear but was prescribed Macrodantin just in case. I had an allergic reaction to it, and Dr advised me to stop using it. Bacteriology came back that there was no infection. Returned to doctor yesterday with UTI symptoms (burning, fever etc). Dipstick tests shows a large quantity of leukocytes, Prescribed Ciprofloxacin 250mg. I'm allergic to penicillin, (hives and wheezing) but I'm now very afraid I'm going to have the same reaction to the cipro. Is it likely? I'm just a bit freaked out after the Macrodantin eaction ras it was a bit scary at the time. Can you advise? I've taken one tablet of the cipro, and really need rid of this UTI.

report on medication. i read today report that a combination of some medications can cause serious prblems for the elderly. I am 75 and have been taking pills for ten years after a heart atack. my pills are; atenolol 50 mg. ramipril 5 mg aspirin 75 mg simvastatin 20mg. one of each per day. I note partularly that atenolol is mentioned. do u think i am in danger from this mixture of drugs ?? **** *******

side affects I am taking Nitrofurantoin for a UTI. The medical website states it can do serious damage to the lungs and liver. Is this common and should I be worried about taking the drug., I have no problems with my lungs and a recent blood test showed normal liver function.

Shift Worker Syndrome - how can I can modafinil on private prescription? I have been suffering for serveral years with excessive tiredness and tendency to fall asleep at inoportune times. Some years ago, I was advised that the symptoms match closely with shift worker syndrome or mild narcolepsy. In the past, the only treatment I have found to be effective in countering the effects is modafinil/modalert/provigil in 200mg doses once a day. Can you advise me as to how to go about obtaining a private prescription to maintain a regular supply to treat my condition?

re statins I take 20 mgm of simvastatin every evening about 7.00 pm. this morning at 7.30 am , by mistake I took another 20 mgm. Is there any problem with this ? It is now 9.45am and I feel relativly ok.

question about olanzapine side effects hello i was wondering if abit of drooling is a common side effect of olanzapine treatment which is being used to treat my depression, the watering of the mouth isnt excessive and has only happened once for a short spell of time, is this anything to worry about, its not really bothersome at all but just trying to make sure, some websites mention its quite a common side effect while other websites say otherwise. I would like to get an answer from a doctor could you please reply as i cant see my doctor for a number of weeks

i have a problem which needs answering about quetiapine dosing hello i recently began quetiapine treatment for my depression. second week into the treatment i accidentally took 100mg over the space of a day and it had positive effects. My sister warned me to allow my psychiatrist administer the doses and we dropped down to 50mg again for 3 days, my sister who was then in charge of giving me my medication herself, administered 150mg over the space of 15 hours 2days before i saw my psychiatrist who then doubled upto 100mg, i am currently taking 100mg with no effects and waiting to go to 150mg, because she administered that much and then i dropped to 100mg through my psychiatrist etc. have we in a way ruined the treatment by accidentally playing with the doses or does it not really work that way. Please answer as it is bothering me alot

antidepressant question I have been taking venlafaxine 75mg for 10 weeks for depression and anxiety. After 7 weeks treatment I was back to normal. I became ill with an infection and took a course of antibiotics, amoxicillin. I then started to crash severely in mood and became like I was without the venlafaxine. I tried other online doctors for an answer and some think the antibiotics cause the venlafaxine to become less effective. i have seen online experts in America who think this also and accounts of many ordinary Americans getting a their symptoms back when they take antibiotics on venlafaxine. I asked my own GP and he said it was possible but he simply didnt know as he didnt have much knowlege of venlafaxine. I really need a conclusive answer. I`am a few days off the antibiotics now and it seems Im starting to get the symptoms back that I had when first starting the venlafaxine which would indicate Ive had a significant drop in the levels of it in my blood. I would be so grateful if I could get an answer I can trust so I then know if I need to increase my venlafaxine or wait for my body to normalise again. Iam aware the drug has been used for longer in America and they maybe ahead in their information so its likely they have a point about the antibiotics knocking out the effects of venlafaxine.
