House dust allergy ?
Following the advice I was given by ThanksDr I returned to my GP today and requested a referral to the ENT clinic - to no avail.
She has instead revised her original diagnosis (sinus infection) to house dust allergy. On examination she said the inside of my nose was very red and the blood vessels prominent.
She has advised me to continue taking the antibiotics (Dioxycycline) for a further week and has prescribed Beconase nasal spray - a two week course.
I have two questions please, neither of which my Dr was able to answer.
Firstly, is it possible to have such an allergy without the typical watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose or wheezing symptoms - none of which I have.
My symptoms remain as before dry, congested nose which feels slightly raw but with no sinus pain or discharge. I am also overly sensitive to smells and heat.
Secondly, I am still concerned that my symptoms maybe as a result of overuse of Otrivine nasal spray but my GP wont comment on this either. If this were the case will using Beconase make the situation worse ?
I would be most grateful for your advice.

sinus problem / claustrophobia
At the beginning of November I thought I was coming down with a cold - tired, achy and a bit bunged up, but over the next four weeks nothing developed although the stuffy nose persisted. At the start of December the blocked nose had become problematic at night but I had no other symptoms and didn't feel it warranted seeing my GP.
I bought an over the counter nasal spray 'Otravine' for night time use only and this worked very well. I continued use for a period of approx 3 wks until the 28th Dec when it just stopped working. The congestion kept me awake and by New years eve I was worn out through lack of sleep, and the pressure in my nose felt very uncomfortable, I also became hyper sensitive to smells and heat. For a while one side of my nose felt a little worse than the other and there has been some miniscule amounts of blood when I've tried to clean my nose.
Over the phone an emergency Dr prescribed Doxycycline 100mg but after 4 days there has been no improvement. Yesterday my own GP prescribed Psuedoephedrine Hydrochloride 60 mg and referred me to a online self help site for panic attacks. She could see no obvious signs of polyps, my ears and throat were fine and my temperature was normal.
After nine days of sleeping upright in a freezing unheated room with the window open, drinking copious amounts of black tea and coffee (as suggested by NHS direct), having tried a natural saline spray as recommended by a self help site (with no relief) and avoided anyone who has a trace of perfume, smokes, drinks etc (it feels suffocating) I'm feeling desperate.
Talking to my GP was difficult because I was so emotional and tearful, I suspect I came across as a bit of lunatic.
At 53 I have no history of sinus problems.
I still have no typical sinus pain but there is a sensation of fullness when I press around my nose and beneath my eyes and a constant sense of pressure against the side of my nose, there's been no discharge (unpleasant or otherwise) and I can't blow my nose as it's dry - what tiny weeny amount trickles out when I'm in the open air is clear and watery.
At night my cheeks and across the bridge of my nose are red and burning despite the room being cold, the four Pseudoephedrine I've taken so far have had no effect other than to make me feel 'dried out' all over. As someones who suffers from badly from claustrophobia this is proving difficult to cope with especially at night.
My question is - is this normal, have I created the problem by over using the nasal spray and if so is it permanent damage and if not, when can I reasonably expect recovery ? Is it possible to have an infection when there seems no evidence of one, and are the Pseudoephedrine designed to cure or alleviate the situation and should I have experienced some relief by now ? Thank you.
