Sleep affected by weight loss
Hello there, just needed some advice concerning my boyfriend. In a nutshell, every time he loses weight, he has sleep problems.
He is 18 stone at the moment and the last time he lost weight, he went down to 13 stone but had insomnia during his weight loss and thereafter.
He has tried sleeping pills, valerian tablets, the tea but he still struggles to stay asleep!
He is losing weight again and wants to keep it off but is concerned about the sleeping issue. He can fall asleep no problem but staying asleep is difficult.
Does anyone know why this might be? Is it something related to over active thyroid at all? Or is that complete rubbish?
I can't seem to find any articles about this, there are plenty of articles about making sure that you get plenty of sleep in order to aid weight loss but nothing about weight loss affecting sleep?
I'd appreciate advice on this and thanks!

Sleep Problem
I have problems sleeping. I cannot sleep in any position other than sitting upright because my air supply is totally restricted as I fall into sleep. I suffer severe rhinitus which blocks my nose.It used to only be in the summer but now I am allergic to very many airborne allergies. I also believe that I have an hereditary problem concerning the muscles relaxing in my throat/airways and blocking my airways as I fall into sleep.
Sometimes I go nights without sleep. My only releif is prednisolone and if I take a heavy dose(40mgs) it seems to calm my presumably inflamed membranes but unfortunately I also have severe osteoporosis from having been prescribed cortosone for 30 years. It's very frightening not being able to sleep. These are not panic or anxiety related and I do not have Sleep Apnia. Most doctors I've tried to discuss this with don't seem to accept that I could have something medically wrong which blocks my airways as I fall to sleep-instead they try to put my symptoms into another 'box'. It has just been suggested that I try a mandibulary advancement mouthpiece but it seems to do little. Any really geniune suggestions as to what could be happening would be welcomed with open arms. It might be that I could go back to my doctors to ask for this to be investigated. I'm feel desperate. Thank you.
Ps. I am not really overweight. I am male-nearly 66..
