Menstrual problems Questions

    Problem with menstrual cycle

I am 20 years old, no history of medical problems other than migraines, which are genetic in my case, for these I take paracetamol and occasionally, aspirin. I have a slight, but constant pain in my right side, that can occasionally also be felt in the left, also and I am experiencing secondary amenorrhea. (These symptoms have been occuring for about 2 weeks). About three weeks ago, I began exercising fairly intensely (an hour or so a day), and did this for a week, but when I began experiencing the abdominal pain, I stopped, as I thought it might be muscular strain, the pain didn't stop however and my period is about 10 days late. I'm pretty sure I ovulated, as I had my usual mid-cycle discomfort and change in cervical mucus. I even had symptoms of PMS around the time my period should have come, but it hasn't... should I be worried? I have quite a busy lifestyle, I am a full-time student as well as being on the organising committee of a monthly Christian event and being the lead singer/guitarist in a band, so I guess stress could be an issue...

    Birth Control

I've been taking Loestrin 24 oral for the last year and have almost never had a period. There is every so often some small spotting during when I take a week break from the pill but in general I never have a period. Is this ok??

I am aged 51 My periods have been very heavy lately.

I had a small bleed whitsun week for 3 days Very light so thought I might be starting my menopause. But I came on full blown two weeks ago and am still bleeding very heavily, to the degree of clots dropping into toilet water still. I felt a 'twang' at the beginning of the bleed on right hand side of gut and notice this area when I cough. Not sure if any significance?

not returned to normal menstrual cycle how long can it take?

I had a merena coil in place for 5 years, i had it removed 27th April 2010. I had it removed as I am trying to get pregnant. Since then I have not had a cycle. I started what i thouht was a period on 2nd July but have now started bleeding again yesterday which is only 24 days. It's really hard to work out when I may be ovulating when I don't have a full month of a cycle to work from. How long can it take to settle down or is this abnormal?

Gynae problem / Norethisterone Side Effects

I'm 45 and have been taking 30mg of Norethisterone daily since 5th Oct to treat irregular & heavy menstrual bleeding. I have been prescribed it by my gynaecologist for a period of 3 months 21 days on / 7 days off. I had an internal ultrasound which was fine and blood tests which show I'm slightly anaemic but my hormone levels are in the normal range. If the bleeding does not rectify itself I have been recommended to have a hysteroscopy and possibly a mirena coil. I have a family history of type II diabetes and because of this I test my blood sugar once or twice a week which has always been in the normal range. Approximately 5 days after starting the Norethisterone my mouth felt very dry and I tested my blood sugar to see it was 12mmol. I then read the leaflet and on the internet where it says that one of Norethisterone's side effects can be to raise blood sugar. I have now significantly restricted my intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates and whilst the blood sugar readings are still higher than normal (5-5.7 on waking - and on a couple of occasions, up to 9.2 two hours after eating) they have come down since I began taking the Norethisterone. My questions are: My GP would now like me to have the diabetes A1c test which I believe measures ones blood sugar over the last three months or so? Will the high blood sugar I've experienced since taking the Norethisterone over the past 5 weeks affect the outcome of the test? Also, if I had a Mirena coil fitted, does this have the potential to raise my blood sugar or is it a much lower dose of progesterone? If possible, I am loathe to stop taking the Norethisterone just now as it has managed to so far correct the prolonged and heavy bleeding I've been experiencing. My greatest fear though is somehow triggering diabetes. Thank you very much ***

    Microgynon 30 breakthrough bleeding worried

I have been taking the contaceptive pill microgynon 30 for about 6 years. This week, I have been having occasional breakthrough bleeding, but I still have a week left of pills to take on my current packet. Last Wenesday I got mild period pain and some blood trickled down my leg, then nothing else until today (sunday) I got some more blood in my knickers. Not a huge amount, but this has never happened before apart from when I very first started taking the pill for about a week, which is normal anyway. Why could this suddenly be happening? Should I be worried? is it still working properly? it hasn't happened before. I have been taking my pills as normal. I have been a bit stressed / anxious recently, but nothing else has changed. I am due at my doctor's in 2 weeks to get some more contraception. Would he change my pill to something else? I thought this pill suited me well and now I'm very worried and feel really down! Thanks

    my period has become irregular

My period has suddenly become irregular. I've had 2 very irregular things happen in the last month. I’m not stressed. I’ve not gained or lost weight. I’m not ill or done lots of exercise. Im not using any kinds of drugs or prescriptions and I’ve not had sex (im still a virgin). I’m 17, 18 in 2 months. I started my period the week before my 13th birthday. I’m also still a virgin. By now my period is pretty regular. I usually have quite a heavy period. (I went on the pill for 2 or 3 months when I was 16 but I didn’t like it so I stopped). Usually just before it starts, or maybe how it starts, is when I go to the toilet/ in my knickers there is a small trickle or smear of blood. So as well as documenting it I then know that the days after I should expect the really heavy flow. For about 2-3 days it flows very heavily. My last normal period was 26th July. It was normal and it was over by the Saturday. Then on the 9th August I started lightly bleeding. And this continued for a week. It soaked my knickers but definitely wasn’t as heavy as my regulars. It was diluted compared to my normal heavy part of the cycle where the colour of the blood makes it look as though I’ve been stabbed. Then this morning 4th September without any sort of warning or signs the day before, I woke up with my knickers drenched in blood, some of it still wet, with a dried puddle of blood on my sheets. And it was that heavy, dark coloured blood, so not the diluted version in the least. It was like being in the very heavy part of my cycle and forgetting to wear anything to bed. But now, it’s night time and it’s not heavy again. I’ve got a couple of cramps but if I go to wipe myself its very light again.
