    Baby's position for birth

Hi I am 37 weeks pregnant with my second child. At a routine antinatal my midwife said that my baby is head down but the head is not in line with my pelvis, just off towards my hip and I'm therefore not engaged yet. I'm aware that babies heads often don't engage until birth ( my sons didn't) but she also said that if my waters broke first, there might be a danger that the umbilical cord could drop out of me first because the head isn't in the pelvis and that I should get on all fours quickly and call an ambulance. This has now scared me a bit. Do most 'un' engaged heads still present themselves directly in line with the pelvis then? Is my baby in an unsual position ? Many thanks

anxiety over causes of a miscarriage

I am trying to help a person with anxiety and mental health issues who 17 years ago may or may not have been up to 31 days pregnant and is worried that any of the following actions may have caused a miscarriage. 1 As a vegetarian she sporadically used a Holland and Barratt, adult formulation, daily, high potency multi-vitamin and mineral tablet (which included vitamin A). Also on one occasion took 2 tablets instead of one which gives particular concern. As this was 17 years ago dont know about vitamin legislation in uk at that time or concentration or if use cautioned against during pregnancy. 2 Occasional use of neat chamomile and peppermint essential oils on temples and wrists to aid concentration. 3 Absent mindedly drumming on stomach with flat palms in time to music. 4 Exceeding the recommended dose of over the counter herbal throat sweets(olbas pastilles).

Medical abortion. Pregnany tests still positive.

I was pregnant and had a medical abortion. Pregnany tests still show I am pregnant!

    worried after erpc

I would be grateful if you would advice about an absence of periods since an ERPC for a missed miscarriage on 17th November. I am 30 years old and this was my third pregnancy (2 healthy children conceived very easily), which I conceived immediately after stopping the oral contraceptive pill Since the ERPC I have had some pelvic pain – the first episode coincided with a positive home ovulation test on 7 December. Then on 12 December I had a very small amount of brown spotting, which lasted for 6 days, but the pelvic cramping became worse on 14 December still with a minimal amount of brown spotting. On 14 December I did a blood test (I am a nurse in a hospital) as i felt i was 7 days post ovulation E2 620 pmol/l progesterone 36.1 nmol/l LH 1.8 FSH 1.2 I thought that this showed mid luteal phase but don't get the spotting at all and it frightens me so much that I may have developed ashermans syndrome and the bleeding was supposed to be a period. I expected a period today but it hasn't arrived and doesn't seem to be. Pregnancy test is negative. I know i look a bit crazy with this obsessing but I am so frightened to get ashermans and double checked with the consultant doing the procedure. She reassured me at the time but i do not feel happy now

    unwanted pregnancy

I ended up having sex with someone I have known briefly.. its been roughly 3 weeks (17th june to be exact) since we had sex and she has just informed me she is pregnant.. We have discussed the matter and she doesnt want to have a baby at this stage in her life as it will affect her family and herself in many ways and certainly nor am i ready for such a responsibility - nor are we planning on having a long term relationship/contact in the furture; it was a mistake. Her age is 27 and im 28. I'm a bit stressed out and wanted to know what the detailed procedure is when a pregnant women decides not to keep the baby just after 3 weeks of her pregnancy.. is there any medication she can take to stop her pregnancy from progressing? or is it just simply a matter of abortion now? I would like full clarity over this so I can have a better perspective of the whole situation. I am aware that she has to go and see her GP and they will most probably refer to a clinic of some sort.. but for the time being i'd like some relief by any means possible and would like to know all the possible options available to her. I guess I am desperate for some sort of reassurance/solution that there is something that can be done to stop her pregnancy before reaching an embryonic stage (where a baby begins to form in to more of a human like figure) of her pregnancy. I think otherwise an abortion will become a harder decision to live with for me and most probably for her... hence we both are extremely desperate to sort out this situation now and put this behind us forever. I have done some reading on the net and learned that there is a pill she can take when up to 9 weeks pregnant followed by another pill. But i'm still worried because she previously took the morning after pill after we had sex and reacted soo badly to the drug, she was nauseaus and threw up, and the pill was ineffective. I'm scared the same thing might happen if she is given another pill.. and has the same reactions? and if that does happen what should she do? is there an alternative? Please could you answer ALL my questions comprehensively - IM SOO WORRIED AND STRESSED OUT!! :-(

    anti d

I miscarried a twin at 11 weeks, I'm rhesus negative but the hospital didn't give me the anti d injection after the miscarriage so they found antibodies in my blood during the remainder of the pregnancy. A nurse at the hospital informed me I would now find it difficult to conceive again. Is this true? Hope you can clear this up for me.

Did vit c cause my miscarriage?

Dear Doctor, I hope you can give me advice on this as i have been frantic with worry & guilt. For 3 & a 1/2 days i took large doses of vit c,i cant be specific totaly but for the first half a day it was under 5000mgs,the 2nd under or around 5000mgs, the 3rd & 4th under or around 7000mgs, The reason for this increase was a friend who works in a health food shop suggested that if i tripled my vit c intake for 3 to 4 days it would help bring on my delayed period,it helps the uterus to shed its lining or something. My cycles vary from 21 days to 39 days some months,i sometimes also have break through bleeding inbetween periods,in this instant it was about 33 days into my cycle with no sign of a period and i was going to south africa for a friends wedding & i really didnt want to be there in the middle of a period ,i have endometriosis & my periods are very painfull & debillitating,i am 44yrs of age & i have had one fallopian tube & an ovary removed due to cysts and adhesions & i was told i had multiple endometrial deposits some but not all of which they removed by laser, While away i felt ill & still no period so by day 40 in my cycle i did a pregnancy test as i always do if my period is that late, to my total shock i was pregnant, i was in total disbelief as i use a diaphragm always with spermicide & have done for the last 10yrs every time i have sex with my partner, i am very careful, ive never been pregnant before, A week to the day after i took that vit c i miscarried, we think i was about 3 weeks pregnant according to my docs blood test. As i would imagine is normal i looked on the internet as to reasons why i could have miscarried my doc said it was just one of those things @ my age & he doubts very much if anything i did or didnt do would have made much diffrence but to my total horror on the internet i read on some alternative health websites that large doses of ascorbic acid from 6000mgs to 12000mgs for 6 to 10 days is theorised to bring on a miscarriage,or increase your odds & is used to induce a home abortion along with other herbs etc by some herbalists, other websites contradict this saying its an old wives tale and although mega doses of vit c arnt recommended in pregnancy vit c is unlikely to do any harm being water soluble, some vit c enthusiasts even suggest pregnant women take between 4000 to 6000mgs of vit c ! seems madness to me ! I feel sick to my stomach that i may have caused or contributed inadvertently to this miscarriage by my stupid behaviour, Around the time of conception i was also taking asprin paracetamol & caffine pain relief 2 or 3 times a day for a shoulder injury, i also drank coffee regularly , i was also taking vit e 200mgs which ive since read isnt advised in pregnancy due to links with heart defects in babies, I also have fibroids & suffer from constant thrush & once i had bacterial vaginosis but i dont know if i had this @ the time i was pregnant as i havent had a swab test for a while, I know all of the above can also increase miscarriage chances, including my age @ 44, i do hope you can give me some advice as to what you think as i really have been very upset that i somehow caused this miscarriage with this vit c after reading those awful websites.

    I am pregnant and bleeding

I am 10 weeks pregnant with my second baby and have just started bleeding. It is only a tiny amount but it is bright red. The reason I want advice is that I am on holiday at the moment in Greece and I don't want to have to go to hospital, as I would have to go on my own so my husband could look after my daughter. Is it safe to just ignore it until we get back home on Saturday?
